I’m torn on this. On the one hand, I find reading almost any political theory insufferably boring and inaccessible. I swear some of these thinkers were aiming to make their work as arcane and obtuse as possible. This is true across the political spectrum.

On the other hand, I would definitely learn a lot and I enjoy arguing with people I disagree with (I’m fairly certain I’d have plenty to fight over with Millerman, even if I’m not all equipped for such a debate).

Just to clarify what this would be, it’s a lectures/reading assignments with Millerman guiding us through by message? Kind of like blackboard online college courses?

I think he also does weekly Zoom calls. I will verify.

U of T? Sounds suspiciously Canadian. I don't trust Canadians.

Fair enough, but Canada actually has one of the most interesting philosophical traditions, especially in media/communications theory. Marshall McLuhan, Harold Innis, Eric Havelock to name a few!

Yeah, I'm obviously Canadian, so that means everyone who has ever cheated me is also Canadian. It's a real mind-fuck.

You are right not to trust us. We are devious and remorseless. But of course you would know that.

They are all slightly sticky and smell of maple syrup. A truly vile lot of people.

But I suppose I'll let my biases slide and give it a try, anyway. Even if it's against my better judgment.

Don't mistake the Toronto elites as all Canadians. That's like saying shrill NYers or asshats from LA are all Americans.

I regard Canadians the same as I do the Russians. They have done truly great works. But they have also unleashed great horrors. "Hawaiian Pizza." Justin Bieber. Ryan Reynolds.

I have no hate for the general population of that frozen tundra to the north. But I an also keenly aware that someone, in some dark Canadian basement, is dreaming up the next Nickleback.

Perhaps the Canadians would be a fitting subject for a Anti-Humans II episode.

There will never be "the next Nickelback". That kind of perfection only happens once. And Ryan Reynolds is quite obviously the best actor to ever play Deadpool twice.

I suspect he is joking. Well, probably, we are a sticky lot.

Would love to enter but the idea of using PayPal/Venmo given their behavior makes me somewhat hesitant. I'm already yearly subscriber. Any other way to enter?

I'm a dumb dumb, I'll have my buddy take it with me and explain everything to me through an analogy of Deep Space 9.

Sounds interesting, as the current political climate makes it difficult to get an even-handed read on any philosophical approach, forget asking questions or posing hypotheticals for clarification.

Think my money was returned.

I was also given notice today that my Venmo transfer was being returned

Subscribed after seeing this on twitter. Been a fan of your podcast and the opportunity to get a substantial educational experience on a subject I've been longing to learn about for a while is too good to pass up. One of my favorite filmmakers, Terrence Malick, is heavily influenced by Heidegger and I've always wanted to read and understand his work to have a better frame with which to appreciate Malick. I majored in History and minored in Film Studies and partly regret not minoring in philosophy instead. Either way, looking forward to having access to your substack as I've been meaning to get on here and support the writers and creators who I appreciate on twitter so much. Thanks for what you do.

General question, Darryl: How many paid subscribers do you currently have on the Substack? I've loved reading & listening to your content, and hopefully this contest attracts more subscribers

Hey dude, I tried to enter this contest by chipping in $25 through venmo as I was already a subscriber. I just got a notice that my $25 was rejected. Was this intentional? If not, I'll gladly resend the money as I attempted to enter the contest in good faith...even though you were a jerk and didn't randomly select me.

Is this contest still a thing? I haven’t entered yet but am interested

I apparently trashed my message. I'm in Europe so can't attend if i win sadly. If i sign a year and win - can it be donated to someone who couldn't afford that you or the lecture teacher knows of?

I tried to Venmo you yesterday at the gmail address you listed and the transactions still says "pending." Just want to make sure I sent it to the right place.

Likewise for me

Would be keen, a few of these are already on my ever growing "to read" pile, always much more fun to discuss and work through these topics with others.
